Usage:
The preparation of final underglaze paste consists of three parts:

-Preparation of CMC Solution
-Preparation of Underglaze Medium
-Final Underglaze Paste for application

Step 1: Preparation of CMC Solution: Documentation on the preparation of CMC Solution available with Clay Stop India’s Sodium CMC (Ceramic Glazing Aid) purchase.

Step 2: Preparation of Underglaze Medium: Underglaze medium is a combination of CMC Solution and Water. The proportion of CMC Solution is 48% of the weight of the underglaze powder and for water is 30% of the weight of the underglaze powder.

Eg: For every 10gms of underglaze powder: 4.8gms of CMC Solution and 3gms of water need to be mixed to form your underglaze medium of 7.8gms.

Step 3: Final Underglaze paste for application: Final Underglaze paste is a mix of the prepared underglaze medium as per step 2 with your underglaze powder.

Eg: As per our above example: 10gms of the underglaze powder will now be mixed with 7.8gms of our underglaze medium. The output will be 17.8gms of final underglaze paste for application.

Note: This paste can be thinned further with water for watercolour-like effects.

How to use:
Apply by brush, sponge or spray.
It can be applied on bisque or leather-hard greenware.
→ Bisque: Dampen ware with a moist sponge, apply colour, and dry thoroughly
→ Greenware: Apply water-thinned first coat as a primer, apply the final coat, bisque fire at 1000°C - 1050°C.
Apply transparent gloss or matte glaze and fire.
Underglaze colours fired without a glaze give matte effects and are not food-safe. The final colour is very much dependent on the glaze firing temperature. Food-safe glaze firing is essential to make the underglaze wares Food-safe.
